When they aren’t selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet — an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.
I mean... that sounds really stupid. I wouldn't have watched a show with that title at synopsis. But I heard the song Golden and saw the praise after it was released so heck, give it a shot. I mean Kimi No Na Wa had a really stupid synopsis too.
Conclusion? Story was okay, it's quite simplistic, feels quite rushed, loose ends etc. Comedy was decent. Animation was great (into the spiderverse folks). The songs are FIRE.
This isn't a show to watch with your brain on, and they know it (they lean into it with some of the comedic moments). The best way to enjoy it is to treat it like a musical, the plot is a device to get the songs going. And it's a really fun watch.
For Kpop and Korean culture fans, it seems to portray that part quite realistically as well.
I would recommend watching it, and if you don't feel like spending 1.5hrs on it, tbh I think you can enjoy the bulk of what makes it so good with just the video below.
Fair warning, it contains spoilers for the entire movie since it's literally the scenes from the movie including the finale, but I mean, if you weren't going to watch it anyway might as well. And if you decide to watch it after, I think the plot isn't that important lmao. I think watching the movie just gives it a 'fuller' experience. Some songs (especially the final one) hit better in the context of the movie.
Loved all the songs. Golden is the most popular because all the kpop artists are covering it and showcasing their vocal prowess, but the rest are amazing too and quite a good range in vibes.
If you really want a minimum spoiler version, then this is the first song and damn its hype:
